On October 12th, the National Forum on Ethics and academic atmosphere Construction in Philosophy and Social Science was held in Qingdao, Shandong. Wang Jingqing, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and deputy secretary of the party group, Zhang Jiangting, member of the Standing Committee of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee and secretary of the Qingdao Municipal Party Committee, attended the forum and delivered speeches. Tang Zhouyan, vice chairman of the Shandong provincial CPPCC and Secretary of the Party committee of the Shandong Academy of Social Sciences, presided over the opening ceremony of the forum. 

Wang Jingqing pointed out that the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core attached great importance to the development of philosophy and social sciences, and clearly proposed to accelerate the construction of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics, to prosper Chinese scholarship, to develop Chinese theories, and to disseminate Chinese thoughts. At the important historical node of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, at the critical stage of reform and opening up, the baton was handed over to the hands of our generation of intellectuals. The majority of philosophical and social science workers must strengthen their ideals, keep good morality, improve their self-cultivation, work hard, take on the glorious mission entrusted by history, and write a good answer to the era of our generation of intellectuals.

Wang Jingqing stressed that, at present, with the deepening of reforms and the transformation of society, the impetuous social atmosphere has gradually affected scientific research. Bad academic atmosphere and academic corruption are related to the ethics of the entire academic world. It is necessary to establish a sound disciplinary supervision mechanism, scientific and reasonable academic evaluation standards, and promote the formation of an excellent academic atmosphere of seeking truth from facts, seeking high quality works, rigorous research, paying attention to integrity, and stressing responsibility, and creating an academic ecology that is clear-minded, mutual learning, and positive.

Wang Jingqing proposed that philosophical and social science workers should integrate academic research into the great cause of China's reform and development, integrate into the great struggle of the people to create history, and work in the same direction as the development of the party and the state, write for the times and do research for the people. We should resolutely put an end to all forms of academic corruption, pursue the academic character and moral spirit of moral integrity, pursuit of truth and positive innovation. 

Zhang Jiangting believed that the construction of morality and academic atmosphere in philosophy and social sciences is the cornerstone of the construction of socialist philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics. Only by observing morality and setting up good academic atmosphere can philosophy and social science be valuable and continue to flourish. Zhang Jiangting proposed that we should establish a Marxist academic atmosphere and adhere to the guiding position of Marxism in philosophy and social sciences. We should establish a research orientation centered on the people, persist in doing research for the people, and contribute to the development of the country and the nation. We must learn moral nutrients from excellent traditional culture and consciously assume the historical mission of philosophy and social science workers. We must pay more attention to strict academic, form an excellent academic atmosphere that emphasizes integrity and responsibility, and create an academic ecology that is clear-minded, mutual learning and positive.

Gu Hailiang, deputy director of the Social Science Committee of the Ministry of Education; Han Qingxiang, former member of the Party Committee of the CPC Central Party School and deputy education chief; Zhang Yuyan, deputy director of the Department of International Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and director of the Institute of World Economics and Politics; Tong Shijun, Party Secretary of East China Normal University; Zhang Shucun, Dean of Shandong Academy of Social Sciences made speeches at the conference.

Gu Hailiang proposed that to prosper and develop philosophy and social sciences, we must solve the problem of academic atmosphere. At present, there are some unhealthy trends in academic philosophy and social sciences, such as academic exaggeration, academic misconduct, and academic corruption. Gu Hailiang suggested that we should combine the soft constraints and hard measures in the academic integrity construction of philosophy and social sciences, and form an excellent academic atmosphere that pursue high quality works, do research carefully, emphasizes integrity and responsibility, and create an academic ecology that is clear-minded, mutual learning and positive.

Han Qingxiang said that integrating theory with practice is an academic style advocated by Marxism. At present, socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era, and the academic circles must actively and consciously pay attention to and research the new era. Using Chinese theory to explain China's practice, answer China's problems, clarify China's roads, and sum up China's experience. This is a very important growth point for the construction of the academic atmosphere.

Combining international issues Zhang Yuyan said that good academic atmosphere needs to be cultivated in practice, and philosophy and social science workers should face the demands of the country and closely link academic research with national development. In face of the changes in the international situation, scholars, who research on international issues must have a strong sense of mission and responsibility. They must always think about national security and national development. Thus, moral and academic atmosphere construction will have a solid foundation.

Tong Shijun, secretary of the Party Committee of East China Normal University, said that teachers are in an important position in education and scientific research. They are important factors influencing the construction of academic atmosphere in colleges and universities. Their rigorous academic spirit and good image play an important role in the construction of academic  atmosphere. Philosophy and social science research has more contacts with the general public. For the mission of raising flags, educating new people, and displaying images, teaching and research personnel in the field of philosophy and social sciences have a more exemplary role.

Zhang Shucun said that the most important thing in strengthening the construction of Chinese philosophical and social science morality and academic atmosphere is to establish a Marxist  academic atmosphere. The excellent academic atmosphere of Marxism includes the atmosphere of conscientious study, democratic discussion, active exploration, seeking truth and pragmatism, and integrating theory with practice. This is the main content of the construction of the morality of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics, and it is also the fundamental guarantee for the prosperity and development of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics. In the new era, philosophers and social scientists should shoulder the historical mission, win respect with profound academic accomplishment, lead the atmosphere with noble spiritual character, achieve self-achievement and realize the value of life in the great cause of promoting national development, national revitalization and people's happiness.

The forum also set up three sub-forums, respectively hosted by Cui Jianmin, executive deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Jing Linbo, president of the China Social Science Evaluation Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Bing Zheng, executive vice president of Jilin University. Zhang Yibin, secretary of the Party Committee of Nanjing University and other experts and scholars from the National Academy of Social Sciences, universities, party schools, and scientific research institutions have heated discussions on the theme of the forum. 

The forum was hosted by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and organized by the Shandong Academy of Social Sciences. More than 120 experts and scholars from the National Academy of Social Sciences, universities, party schools and scientific research institutions attended the forum.
